Tahoe Carpooling Information

Are you interested in carpooling to/from Lake Tahoe,

but don’t know how to start?

Check out RTC Smart Trips!

The RTC RIDESHARE program is a free, web-based service that uses advanced technology to make carpool/bike buddy matching easy, fast, convenient, and accurate. Enter your traveling preferences and receive the best potential carpool matches back in a matter of seconds. You can access this service at

You control the personal information that is shown to other travelers, so you know your information is secure. With a click of your mouse you can contact your preferred matches instantly via email to discuss your needs and expectations. You don't have to carpool every day to make an important difference. Start out trying it one or to two days a week and go from there. Every shared trip benefits both you and our community.
For example:
• Save money
• Lower stress,
• Reduce traffic, pollution, and global warming
• Gain useable time when you ride to read, sleep, work, and talk

People who participate in carpooling regularly can GET COUNTED through a Washoe County Programs called Smart Trips.  This registers and tracks users willing to share rides (they don't even have to be Washoe County rides!) Sharing rides eliminates VMT or Vehicle Miles Travelled which impacts our environment. As rural western residents, to GET COUNTED  is an important part of planning strategies and posturing of-opportunities to get our tax dollars back west to serve our transit needs. So log onto Smart Trips, start carpooling and start to GET COUNTED today!
