FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gene Brockman Named Public Official of the Year

Incline Village, NV- IVGID Trustee Gene Brockman was recently named the Public Official of the Year by the Nevada League of Cities. Brockman received the award at the 49th Annual Conference held on August 20-23, 2008 in Fallon, Nevada. The Public Official of the Year award program was started in 1979. The first recipient was Lovelock Mayor, Lyle Wilcox. Since then, this prestigious award has been awarded to many outstanding elected from cities around the state.

Nevada League of Cities Executive Director David Fraser said that the award is given to a member of the league who is nominated by any member or city of the league. The Public Official of the Year is then chosen by a committee of past winners of the award. “What makes this award so honorable is that Brockman was chosen by not only his own community, but amongst his peers and by his peers,” Fraser said. “He received this award because he’s shown dedication and demonstrated commitment to good government in Nevada.”

“This was the best conference I’ve been to in six years,” said Brockman. “Mayors from Sparks, Elko, Reno, and Las Vegas and about 12 others were there.”

The Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities was originally incorporated as the Nevada Municipal Association in 1959. Amended articles of incorporation filed in 1974 reflected the name change to the Nevada League of Cities. The original goals and objectives of the first League are the same that were adopted by the Nevada Municipal Association in 1959, and remain true today:

“To foster periodical conferences of city officials; disseminate knowledge of municipal affairs and government; to circulate publications on municipal affairs; to secure harmony of action among cities; and to render technical information and other services to the cities.”

The Incline Village General Improvement District is located in Incline Village, Nevada. For more information regarding this press release, please visit www.ivgid.org or call 775-832-1100.
